Sustainable Energy

With the high price of petrol at the moment it has got me thinking a lot about more sustainable options. I mean it is a fact that the world supply of oil will run out eventually. I wonder, if the governments of the developed world legislated that all cars should be hybrid electric petrol by 2008, that it would spur the car makers on to many new innovations. I feel sure that if they really concentrated their Research and Development resources at the problem that we would be seeing massive improvements in fuel efficiency. Imagine the benefits that could have to the economy if even 50% of people's current spending on fuel was released into the economy as discretionary spending.

I have been impressed with the Toyota Prius and I wouldn't be surprised if we see a lot more of these hybrid vehicles. With these high petrol prices there must be many businesses out there crunching the numbers and seriously considering a vehicle like this.

While we are on the subject I also came across Sustainable Energy Queensland a site listing businesses which offer sustainable solutions in Queensland.

If you are more of an expert on these sorts of technologies and know of some other sites I should be checking out then please let me know.

Readings on Design

There are a couple of Design related blogs that I have found myself checking out very often lately. The first is Design Observer and the other is the bittersweetly named Playground Blues. In fact I've enjoyed reading about design so much on these sites that it's taken away from the time I have to actually do my own design work. Perhaps I should follow Playground Blue's advice and Just Do It.

Interesting article on Franchises

Just read this interesting analysis of the profitability of various franchises in the U.S. Link via Small Business Blog. Sometimes working on my business I think it would be nice to have a blue print to work from. But then I think that it's better to create one's own blue print for success sometimes.
